The Most Dangerous Intersections In Sanford

Posted on: September 6, 2024

Sanford, Florida is known for its rich history and charming small-town atmosphere, and it is quickly growing into one of Central Florida’s most vibrant communities. However, with the area’s recent population boom, Sanford has also seen a surge in traffic and development, leading to increasingly congested roads and, unfortunately, more frequent accidents.

Seminole County has been named one of the most dangerous for drivers, and as its county seat continues to expand, it’s more important than ever to understand which intersections pose the greatest risk.

In this post, we’ll explore some of the most dangerous intersections in Sanford, shedding light on the areas where drivers should exercise the most caution. Whether you’re a long-time resident or new to the area, this information is essential for ensuring your safety on the road.

Most Dangerous Intersections in Sanford

  • SR 46 and Airport Boulevard – As one of Sanford’s busiest roads, SR 46 should be traveled with caution. Where it intersects Airport Blvd., there is a high concentration of apartment complexes as well as a train station that sees high traffic.
  • SR 46 and U.S. Highway 17/92 – The intersection of SR 46 (also known as 1st Street) and 17/92 (also known as French Street) lies at the heart of downtown Sanford. The area has seen huge strides in development, which always brings plenty of traffic.
  • U.S. Highway 17/92 and SR 417 – If you’re going to the Orlando-Sanford International Airport, it’s very likely that you’ll be traveling through this intersection. Both of these roads see lots of traffic at all hours of the day, making accidents a common occurrence.
  • Lake Mary Blvd. and SR 46 (E 25th St.) – If you can somehow avoid taking 17/92 or 417 to the airport, you’ll probably find yourself here. Close proximity to the airport as well as a variety of gas stations and shopping plazas makes this a busy area.
  • SR 46 and I-4 – Driving on I-4 is rarely pleasant, but the exit at SR 46 is especially dangerous. So many drivers use this intersection to make illegal U-turns that the police have taken notice.
  • Rhinehart Rd. and SR 46 – Just a block away from I-4, SR 46 intersects with Rhinehart Rd., another busy Sanford intersection. Multiple car dealerships and an emergency room see a lot of traffic as well.
  • Lake Mary Boulevard and U.S. Highway 17/92 (Orlando Dr.) – This intersection just northwest of Lake Minnie is the location of more than a dozen major retailers as well as residential neighborhoods.

Other Accident Factors

While it’s important to be aware of the most dangerous intersections in Sanford, it isn’t just these streets alone that are hazardous. If you plan on driving in Sanford (or anywhere in Florida, for that matter!), it’s important to be aware of the other factors that influence your likelihood of getting into an accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the majority of fatal accidents occur in summer and fall (with the most happening in October). Saturday is the deadliest day of the week for car accidents, especially at night.

Surprisingly, rainy days are not the most dangerous. In fact, most fatal accidents occur in the daytime during normal conditions. This is most likely because people tend to let their guards down during these times.

The best way to avoid getting into a car accident? Be aware of the most common causes of car collisions and be vigilant about your surroundings when on the road. Accidents, by their very nature, are unpredictable. Whenever you get behind the wheel, be on the lookout for things that may cause you to lose focus or control.

What To Do If You Get Into an Accident In Sanford, FL

You’ve already gotten into a car accident—don’t make things worse for yourself!

The moments immediately following a crash are the most important and the actions you take (or don’t take) will have a huge effect on your case in the future. If you get involved in a car accident in Sanford, here’s what to do.

First, assess yourself and any passengers for injuries. While many car accident injuries can lie dormant for days or even weeks, serious trauma (such as broken bones) may be evident right away.

If necessary, call 911 to ensure that you are treated appropriately.

Once you have determined that emergency medical attention is not needed, your next step should be to file a police report. Having a police report not only acts like a third party “witness” to the crash, it provides important information about the other driver. We have seen many cases where a victim’s case relied on evidence that was present in the police report, so don’t skip this step!

Do not attempt to clean up the scene. Instead, document the scene of the accident as much as possible (without getting in the police officer’s way). Take pictures of the damage, the location of the vehicles or debris, and surrounding area. Exchange contact information with the other driver as well as any witnesses. You can even take video if you prefer.

Once you have been cleared to leave the scene, seek medical treatment ASAP, even if you don’t believe you are seriously injured. Remember, it is extremely common for shock and adrenaline to mask the symptoms of car accident injuries, but this doesn’t mean that you are fine.

Furthermore, you must seek treatment within 14 days of your accident if you wish to use your PIP benefits to pay for your medical bills and/or lost wages.

Finally, schedule a consultation with a car accident attorney as soon as possible. Many people skip this step because they expect the insurance company to pay the full value of their claim in a reasonable amount of time.

Based on our experience, however, this is rarely the case.

In all likelihood, you will be forced to fight the insurance company’s lawyers for every penny that you deserve for your medical treatment, pain, and suffering. They have an entire department of attorneys working on their behalf. Having your own car accident lawyer helps to level the playing field so you can receive justice.
